When ŞENER BESIM unveiled its flagship store in the heart of Melbourne’s most exclusive shopping precinct, the Paris end of Collins Street, it was a watershed moment for the relatively new luxury brand. In the three years that have passed, the label has evolved into a multifaceted high-fashion offering with a hugely successful and rapidly expanding ready-to-wear line, a range of jewellery, luxury eyewear, and a soon-to-be-launched ‘made-to-order’ practice.

 

 

Designed by Don McQualter of Studio McQualter, a long-time collaborator of the brand, the boutique offers its surroundings an unequivocal point of difference.

Now in 2023, having just recently undergone some interior renovations, the reimagined space, though similar in ways to its original fit-out, reflects the new material needs of the brand as well as Creative Director & Owner, Şener Besim’s redefined vision of in-store modern-luxury.

 

 

Beyond the towering glass doors, expect custom steel hangers showcasing luxurious Italian-made knitwear, a sizable, bevelled edge mirror acting as the ideal try-on location for jewellery or eyewear, and sleek steel cabinets housing 14kt gold and white diamond treasures.

 

 

The raw-architectural elements such as unsealed concrete flooring, exposed piping, and massive concrete support pillars covered with builders’ notations, are at first glance at odds with the brand, and yet the emphasis on materials, design, and construction binds the luxury product with its almost brutalist surroundings.

Challenging the traditional notion of retail, the ŞENER BESIM boutique merges luxury fashion with architecture and innovation. Blurring the lines of traditional bricks and mortar, the futuristic-inspired store is a celebration of concrete, steel, and utilitarian opulence. The space itself takes on a fluid form, in which intimate and exclusive shopping nights co-exist with art installations, creative collaborations, and capsule launches.
